Zach and Kirsten’s Wedding March 2015

Kirsten’s mom Leigh contacted me in 2014 asking if I was available for her daughter’s wedding. In our conversation she was explaining to me how she wanted to be “present” and “all in” for her baby girl’s big day and how I was going to be “her gift”. That happens quite a bit, we are hired by the mothers because they know the importance of not only making sure everything goes perfectly for their daughter’s wedding but that they get to enjoy every second knowing someone has got everything under control. As a mom, I get that. I should have taken the same advice when planning Jessica’s wedding but that’s a whole other blog. She told me the wedding would be at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw. Now some of you are going “Saxapawho?” But I live in Chatham County and knew exactly what she was referring to. My husband and I had ridden our motorcycle through that sleepy little town a few times and even stopped at the Saxapahaw General Store for a snack and to stretch our legs so we’ve seen the Haw River Ballroom but we never ventured inside. So as soon as they hired me I immediately went over to check it out. Located right on the Haw River, this venue is the former Dye House of Saxapahaw’s Cotton Mill. It has 3 levels, a riverside deck, an outdoor amphitheater, a coffee house, full service stage and sound system, gorgeous historical detail and all in a rural setting just minutes from Chapel Hill. The minute I walked inside I knew this wedding was going to be like no other. Her big day come not come fast enough but we were months away and I still hadn’t even met Kirsten yet. So the three of us met at a coffee shop in Downtown Apex and like many of my brides and their mothers, we connected instantly. She began telling me her vision and I could see it all in my head, that venue and that gorgeous space all coming together so beautifully. I knew I was going to have the best time bringing her vision to life. Then I asked if they had hired anyone yet to photograph their big day and they excitedly said “Yes, Hartman Outdoor Photography.” I literally jumped off of my stool, seriously I did. I even remember high fiving both of them, that’s how excited I was. I had just met Shelley and Josh at the wedding show a few months back and fell in love with them and their work and wanted to work with them so badly and here was my chance. And they did not disappoint! Not only are they one of the cutest married couples on the planet, their work is amazing as you can see in these pictures. Stop what you are doing right now and follow them on Instagram, you won’t be sorry. @roamandromance
Kirsten and her mom’s attention to detail in every area of the space at the ballroom was so well thought out, planned and it brought in exactly who Kirsten is and what she is all about. From the handmade alter they created using pallets (they worked on this at night in the dark), to the license plates on the guest tables each having a meaning that meant something to her and Zach, to the cake topper Kirsten made for their cutting cake. We all couldn’t get enough of the details everywhere you looked. It all came together perfectly. The food from Saxapahaw Catering was delicious (the mix matched china you see is theirs), the staff at the ballroom was so much fun, Gregg at Brides and Bouquets provided the flowers and those beautiful centerpieces and Kim from Kaked by Kim baked those yummy naked cakes you see. When the night was over I was seriously sad knowing my time with Kirsten, Zach and her parents was coming to an end. Yes, I do become quite close with many of my families. So I knew saying good bye that night wasn’t going to be forever. It couldn’t because I knew I had made friends for life. So we promised we would meet up again at that same little coffee shop in Downtown Apex where it all started so we could relive their big day. I know high fives will be happening again….you can guarantee it. XO Lynn
